It was just for one night, but if they liked him maybe it would lead to a permanent gig. The first time he heard Vin Scully, Jack wanted to be a baseball announcer.
Jack sent in a tape of him calling high school games to the Spring Hill Sharks, the local independent team. he was shocked when they picked him over a thousand applicants.
The big night came and Jack was a bundle of nerves. He never talked on the radio before. And the largest crowd to hear him call a game was about a hundred people.
One Jack got into the rhythm of the game and forgot about the listeners, he was fine. After the game the producer told him he did an excellent job. So good, in fact, that he was offered a job behind the MIC the next spring.
