It was my first day off in about ten. With Bobby, my partner, on vacation, I’ve been working overtime. My Captain gave me a ticket to the Steelers opener, and told me to have fun. I was thrilled. The last time I went to a game was back in high school when I went with Bobby. My next game would have to wait though. I had just left my house when the Captain called my cell to tell me to go to the Schenley Theater, a body was found.
I arrived just as Flo was concluding her examination of the body. She stood up, I pointed to the body, and said, “That’s Tina Kris. We went out in high school.” At that moment I had to sit down, and knelt on the ground.
“When’s Bobby coming back?” Flo rubbed my back.
“Not till Tuesday,” I had to take a few deep breaths to keep from throwing up. For a minute I though about calling Bobby, and wishing he was here. But why ruin the last couple days of his vacation? “I’m alright.” I stood up and walked over to the body.
“I only find one stab wound,” Flo said. “And that was to the heart. She died most likely instantly.”
“At least she didn’t suffer,” I ran my hand down my face. “I guess we can be thankful for that.”
“I don’t think she died here though,” Flo crouched over the body, pointing at the wound. “It look like whoever did this, wrapped her in plastic before dumping her. If she would’ve died here, there’d be more blood on the plastic.”
I couldn’t take my eyes off of my ex-girlfriends lifeless body, “How long?”
“I figure about fore hours.” Flo pointed to the forehead, “What do you make of this?”
“Evader,” I read the word out loud that was written on her.
“Yeah, any idea what it means?”
I finally was able to look away from Tina’s body, and at Flo. “It means this was no random killing. Someone is sending a message.”
