Tony got a lump in his throat when he looked up from his desk to see who knocked on the door. It was her. Harper. The only one he ever loved. She took him places, and made him happier than he ever thought he would be. When she chose her job over him it damn near destroyed him. He came so close to taking pills again. Two years of staying clean would’ve meant anything. It was Harper that got him clean in the first place. He didn’t want to go back there. Even after she left, she gave him the strength to stay clean.
She sat in the chair in front of the desk. He look into her big brown eyes, and the love for her came rushing back, not that it ever left. Before she could say anything, he came around and pulled her into his arms. To his delight, she wrapped her arms around him too, and squeezed. “I love you,” she whispered in his ear.
He knew it was true because he felt it down to his soul. Inside he was jumping for joy, but didn’t say it in return. They embraced for what seemed to be hours, then he said, “You want to go home?”
With tears in her eyes, she nodded and said, “I’d like that.”
